Essential services crisis to be sorted in a month - Ali Sabry
The Minister of Finance Ali Sabry has informed the party leaders in Parliament that the crisis regarding the provision of essential services including electricity and gas will be resolved within a month.
This was during the party leadership meeting held in Parliament this morning under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera as well as Minister of Trade and Samurdhi Shehan Semasinghe were also summoned to the meeting.
The party leaders also presented their proposals on the course of action to be taken for the economic crisis.
It is also reported that views have been expressed regarding political stability. Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is yet to confirm its participation in the meeting called by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa tomorrow (April 29).
The general secretary of the party MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said the SLFP would reach a final decision in this regard at its meeting scheduled for this evening.
The party had earlier decided not to participate in any government discussions on political matters unless Suren Raghavan and Shantha Bandara, who had taken up state ministerial portfolios, were removed from their posts.
However, party seniors have proposed to consider whether it is possible to participate in the discussion convened tomorrow as it is a national interest.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawega Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that after removing the powers of the President and formulating a proper system, he will not change his stand of not supporting any other system of government except an interim government.
